China’s Initiative Global Security Initiative and Challenges for India

Share with

The Global Security Initiative (GSI) has been initiated by the Chinese government. Its aim is to create an Asian security framework that allows dialogue, partnership, and benefits for all, rather than “confrontation, alliances, and a zero-sum approach.”

It is also believed that this step has been taken by China at a time when Beijing is worrying that the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) may expand its influence in the Asia-Pacific region and because of this. China’s “Belt and Road Initiative” may face many geopolitical challenges.

Due to this, the Chinese government is shaping a new front on the security front, how China can strengthen its strategic position through dialogue and partnerships with other countries. Earlier, China has faced sharp criticism at the global level for standing with Russia over the attack on Ukraine.

According to security experts, the GSI for India may come in the form of attempts to unilaterally change the status quo in the eastern region of Ladakh and the military standoff that has arisen due to this strategy of China was seen in Doklam and Ladakh.

According to defense experts, under the GSI, Beijing will try to bring India and other countries of South Asia under a broader Asian security architecture of its own.

Because the US is expanding its influence in the region under the Indo-Pacific Strategic Framework through the CWAD (‘Quadrilateral Security Dialogue’) and AUKUS (Tripartite Security Agreement between Australia, the UK, and the US) and India is also independent in the Indo-Pacific. And is constantly talking about rule based system.

An indication to this effect was given by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi during his visit to India, when he emphasized, in a meeting with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, that keeping the “border dispute” parallel and separate, trade and Move forward in the direction of strengthening economic relations.

For some time now, there has been a worldwide condemnation of China for supporting Russia on the issue of Ukraine attack by Russia. However, China’s deputy foreign minister vehemently denied claims that China was aware of Russia’s plans to attack Ukraine from that very beginning.

It is being said by China that “These important initiatives offer a fundamental solution to address the lack of peace, and put the Chinese approach to the world in the face of international security challenges.”

Although many security experts are of the opinion that “China’s GSE initiative is not for world peace, but China’s purpose is to show that the US is currently becoming a threat to world peace and China is trying to fix the problems created by the US”. is trying.

Strategic challenges for India

India is keeping a close eye on China’s initiative to see what China’s objective is, a dialogue, partnership ‘building a security community’ under the ‘indivisible security’ GSI that China is talking about.

In fact, China is now also worried about NATO’s eastward expansion, as Japan has also signaled a favorable stance on NATO’s efforts to strengthen ties with Asia-Pacific partners.

According to experts, China has already tried this strategy on India, the standoff in Ladakh was the result of this policy. According to experts, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has also been done under a similar strategy.

China can adopt the same strategy on the issue of Taiwan. The world is constantly being warned by Taiwan that ‘China can attack Taiwan in the same way as Russia has done Ukraine.

Pro. According to Jacob, “China will now move beyond what was once the path of economic growth through the Belt Road Initiative and move to a more confident and security-focused approach to global security initiatives.”

China’s opposition to the Indo-Pacific or the Asia-Pacific version of NATO raises the possibility that China may be seeing an opportunity to become its own security provider in Asia, as it has seen to a limited extent in Shanghai Cooperation. Tried to do it through organization.

Defense experts say that now it will be China’s effort to make it appear that China and India have left behind the ongoing border tension in eastern Ladakh and both have the same views on the issue of Russia-Ukraine war.

This initiative of China will create a new challenge for India along with ‘Global Security Initiative’ Asia Pacific. Therefore, India will need to proceed cautiously on this subject.
