Road accidents were the main reason for most of the accidental deaths in Delhi in 2009. After this, the Delhi Police identified those black spots where maximum deaths occurred. While ensuring strong security arrangements there, arrangements were made to control the speed of the vehicles plying on the road.
For this, cameras were installed on the red light and these cameras used to send e-receipt of challan to the registered vehicle number as soon as they violated the prescribed speed.
Apart from this, Delhi Police also ensured that ‘lane discipline’ is also strengthened. Most of the accidents also happen because of this. The reason for this is the encroachment on the side of the road here. Bus, truck or other big vehicle has to move out of its lane because it is parked on its lane by handcarts, street vendors and autos etc. This increases the chances of accidents for the passengers disembarking from the larger vehicle and other vehicles passing by it.
Inefficiency and inefficiency of drivers driving vehicles is also a major cause of road accidents. For this also the ‘Delhi Transport Department’ has opened Automated Driving Test Center so that the driver can pass the driving test without any rigging. Not only did this bring transparency in the system, but only skilled drivers would be able to clear the test. The size of 8 is not tested in the RTO office, due to which the efficiency of the drivers to move smoothly among other vehicles on the road is not tested.
For this, the Delhi Transport Department developed the simulator test. It is a type of computer game mechanism. Apart from this, there will also be a psychological test. Along with this the road design will also have to be upgraded. It should be friendly to the people walking on the road. This can prevent road accidents to a great extent. To reduce road accidents, the burden of additional vehicles on the road has to be reduced.
For this, emphasis will have to be given on public transport. People also prefer to travel by private vehicles as it ensures connectivity till the end point. The government can provide a single application in this regard- Mobility: As a Service.
