“As the character of war is changing, 20th century tools such as main battle tanks and fighter aircraft are on their way out, and victory in future warfare will be judged not by statistics but by technical superiority.”
Chief of Army Staff Manoj Mukund Naravane made a comment in the year 2020 which is also very relevant in the current Indian defense scenario. Today, when the Russo-Ukraine war has become more severe, then India will also have to increase vigil on its border; especially on the northern border.
From time to time, China keeps eyeing India on the border with Ladakh. Since the topography of this place is such that it cannot be competed with the usual methods of warfare. High and inaccessible hills, rare roads are here, apart from this there has not been enough infrastructure development here.
Due to this, the army and military equipment have to face a lot of difficulties in reaching here. Apart from this, whatever battle tank or armored fighting vehicle India has, it is very old.
The Russian T-72 and T-90 tanks are not only heavy but their speed is also slow. The way in which the nature of the fight has changed in the present times. In such a situation, these weapons have become irrelevant. Now there is a need for future ready combat vehicles.
These vehicles will not only be of high speed, but they will also be able to compete with the opponents very efficiently on the battlefield. The government has also started working in this direction. Recently, the central government has approved the development of light tanks under the Make in India category of the ‘Defense Procurement Procedure’ (DAP) of 2020. It is to be used on the northern border.
With these state-of-the-art vehicles, you will be able to shoot down enemy combat tanks, armored vehicles, unmanned aerial vehicles as well. Apart from this, we also have to pay attention to the surveillance system. In today’s era, there are advanced radars that can easily identify the combat vehicles of the rivals. So we have to do research on the development of such combat vehicles which cannot be easily caught by the enemy.
Apart from this, India will also have to conduct security audits from time to time to ensure the security of its border. This will also help us to know the lapses in the security system and we will be able to make the required corrections.
